…. but only for those who can afford it.

Have a look at this article from the UK on 1 June 2015.

You will note that the cost is GBP $100,000 for 4 treatments, therefore the reports claim this is only for the super-rich.

With statistics like 1 in 6 men and 1 in 9 women dying from cancer each year, it makes sense for us to consider purchasing trauma insurance BEFORE we are diagnosed, so that if we get the disease, there is sufficient money to pay for treatment.

Make sure you consider movements in the exchange rate as well as the costs of flights, accommodation and recovery. You are likely to need a person to accompany you on your journey to full health. GBP 100,000 at current exchange rates is approximately $220,000 NZD.
Most health insurance policies have a limit for overseas treatment, usually between $10,000 and $30,000 in most cases. This will help but not pay for your whole treatment.

Trauma insurance pays a lump sum in the event of “Dread Diseases” such as Heart Attack, Cancer and Stroke.

Unfortunately trauma insurance is one of the more expensive types of insurance policies available, and for ages 43-58, it is very expensive.

With insurance, you can usually elect to have your insurance premiums increase every year with your level of risk and inflation, or you can elect to have level insurance premiums. Level insurance premiums are where you pay more for the insurance in the early years of having the policy, but these premiums will not increase every year for risk. However they will increase with inflation.
