A bit about Craig… okay a looooong bit!

I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, that specialised in Residential property investment and management. Pocket money was made by working in the family business organising filing, showing prospective tenants through properties, post tenancy inspections plus basic property maintenance.

I joined the financial professions in the year 2000, working for an ANZ subsidiary called Eftpos NZ Ltd. I then went onto work at the BNZ in the 24 hour banking call centre for a year, then onto a Personal Banker role with BNZ for about 2 years. Early on in the BNZ Career, I discovered that I liked Financial services, and decided to embark on some tertiary study.

I was pointed in the direction of some courses at the Open Polytech called the Principals of Investment and the Macro Economic Environment. Off the back of that I started studying towards a Diploma in Business Studies majoring in Personal Financial Planning.

While this was all going on, my career at BNZ continued to grow; I secured promotions to become Personal Manager Investments in 2005 then Investment Manager in 2006 then Private Banker by the end of 2007.

This period between becoming a Personal Banker and then onto a Private Banker was during a time in the early to mid 2000’s where New Zealand faced a major property boom, a finance company explosion, then an economic meltdown during the Global Financial Crisis, plus New Zealand’s own finance company collapse crisis. Also New Zealand launched KiwiSaver in 2007 plus foreign investment fund taxation overhall. There was massive learnings during this historic time frame.

Financial Adviser legislation came under the spotlight, and low and behold, there was little regulation at that time. By 2009 anyone offering financial advice needed to have a specific designation. I studied at a tertiary level to achieve the highest level of professional qualifications currently available in NZ for personal financial planning.

As my skill and experience grew, I became uncomfortable with some of the financial solutions I was required to promote through the bank, knowing that there were terms that were not always in the clients best interests as some products didn’t meet every clients needs in comparison to others available in the market.. This lead me to starting WealthHealth where I could provide unbiased, independent advice without having to promote one company’s product over another.

The use of the word ‘independent’ is sometimes questioned by some due to the fact that we generally get paid commission and how can we be independent in that case. We are paid a similar level of commission by all the providers we work with so there isn’t any particular conflict of interest there, so we are able to just focus on our client’s best interests.

I am also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Financial Advisors and I have their highest designation available.

I am 100% qualified to have a chat with you about anything to do with getting a mortgage and buying your first home, building a portfolio of investments, working out what is best for you and your family in terms of insurance needs, making sure you are set for retirement, and even estate planning.
